Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian is in Brussels today, March 4.

The Minister participated in an extraordinary meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which was also attended by Josep Borrell, the European Commission Vice President and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as well as the Finnish and Swedish foreign ministers, Pekka Haavisto and Ann Linde.

The Minister will also take part in the Foreign Affairs Council meeting of EU foreign ministers, which will be attended by his American, Canadian and British counterparts, Antony Blinken, Mélanie Joly and Liz Truss, and by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The Minister will reaffirm France’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people and authorities. With Russia’s attack on Ukraine representing the most serious threat to European-American security in dozens of years, the Minister will highlight the swift, massive response by the Allies and European partners and the need for continued coordination in this area. He will also discuss the Alliance’s deterrence and defense posture. Mr. Le Drian will also express France’s solidarity with the countries on Ukraine’s borders and the EU’s eastern neighbors. He will stress our absolute determination to respond to the need for solidarity with Ukraine and to facilitate peace on our continent.

In addition, Mr. Le Drian will meet with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and will attend a meeting of G7 foreign ministers.
