European Union presidency - Passage of the torch from Luxembourg to the Netherlands (January 1, 2016)

France warmly congratulates Luxembourg on its 12th European Union Council presidency. Confronted with the many challenges facing the EU, the Luxembourg presidency worked with total determination and commitment, swiftly offering effective, concrete responses.

France applauds the results it achieved, particularly the development of a comprehensive response to migratory flows, the political agreement on the establishment of a European PNR system, and its central role in the adoption of the Paris climate agreement. The commitment of Luxembourg’s presidency was also decisive in the Better Law-Making agreement promoting a simpler, more transparent Union that can better meet the needs and expectations of our citizens.

France offers the Netherlands its best wishes for the success of its six-month presidency. It assures that country of its full confidence and support in moving forward on our common priorities: international migrations and security; financial stability and the solidity of the euro area; the promotion of an innovative, job-creating Europe; and the implementation, on the European level, of the Paris climate agreement.
