Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne is taking part in the informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for trade in Sofia from February 26 to 27.

The meeting will focus on the challenges of the multilateral trade system, following the WTO Ministerial Conference in Buenos Aires in December 2017. It will provide an opportunity for the ministers to discuss the ongoing trade negotiations between Mexico, Mercosur and the ASEAN countries.

The ministers will also discuss the proposed creation of an international investment court, supported by France, following on from the reform of the investor-state dispute settlement system. Lastly, the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the proposal for a regulation establishing a framework for screening of foreign investment, a legislative initiative supported by France, the goal of which is to strengthen the EU’s capacity to protect its strategic sectors through the establishment of a European framework and greater cooperation between member states.

During this visit, Mr. Lemoyne will meet with his German, Italian and Spanish counterparts.
