Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, participated in the General Affairs Council in Brussels. Work focused on the following points:
- preparations for the European Council on October 15 and 16, which will be largely devoted to migration issues. Mr. Désir will reaffirm France’s commitment and the need for the Justice and Home Affairs Council scheduled to meet today to adopt decisions that will establish a permanent and binding mechanism for the relocation of refugees;
- the presentation of the work program of the Luxembourg presidency of the Council. It will focus, as we would like, on social issues, support for growth and employment, the environment, the digital sector, as well the strengthening of EU tax policy;
- an exchange of views on the European Commission’s work program for 2016.
