European Union – Harlem Désir’s participation in the General Affairs Council (Brussels, November 17, 2015)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will take part in the General Affairs Council in Brussels today.

Following the attacks on November 13, Harlem Désir will call for renewed impetus to be given to the efforts to strengthen the security of European citizens, notably through the swift adoption of the PNR system and the strengthening of external border controls, the fight against terrorist financing and the illicit trafficking of firearms as well as the strengthening of the European Criminal Records System.

These priorities will be the focus of preparations for the European Council from December 17 to 18 and the Commission’s work program which will be discussed today in Brussels.
