Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will today open the third meeting of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services, at the invitation of Mr. Olivier Schrameck, who chairs the group.
This meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange views on the major European projects under way relating to audiovisual services. It will bring together regulators from all EU states, following the appalling attack against Charlie Hebdo and the cyberattack against TV5 Monde, in a context of mobilization around the values of freedom of expression and press freedom.
Mr. Harlem Désir will underscore the importance of supporting the transformation of the audiovisual landscape, through the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and through the European Commission’s future digital single market strategy. He will stress the need to strengthen the legal framework for copyright protection in response to a threefold requirement: cultural diversity, access to works and fair remuneration for artistic creation
