France welcomes the appointment of Miroslav Lajcak as Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues.

The dispute between Kosovo and Serbia is a European security concern. France fully supports the EU’s mediation efforts to reach a comprehensive, definitive and legally binding agreement between the two parties, which will contribute to the lasting stabilization of the Western Balkans and to the European rapprochement of both countries.

At this stage, the talks between Belgrade and Pristina, which have been stalled for nearly a year and a half, must be resumed as swiftly as possible. France, which, together with Germany and in coordination with the EU, is committed to facilitating the resumption of the talks, calls on both parties to take the necessary measures to achieve this. In the context of the current health crisis, good neighborly relations and regional cooperation are all the more essential.

Miroslav Lajcak will be able to count on France’s full support in carrying out his duties.
