Mr. Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, visited Brussels to participate in the General Affairs Council. The agenda included two key items:
- preparations for the European Council on March 19 and 20, which will be devoted to the creation of a European Energy Union and to economic issues, especially growth and employment. It will also provide an opportunity for the heads of state and government to discuss the situation in Ukraine and to prepare for the Eastern Partnership summit due to take place in Riga;
- a working lunch with Mr. Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the Commission, focusing on improving the EU legislative process. The Commission shortly proposed a review of the Interinstitutional Agreement on better lawmaking, an objective that France supports.
