Laurence Boone, Minister of State for Europe, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will be in Prague on Thursday and Friday for the informal meeting of European affairs ministers.

She will commend the priorities of the Czech presidency of the EU Council, which are consistent with those of the French presidency in the first half of this year. They include providing support for Ukraine, strengthening European sovereignty in the areas of energy and defense, boosting the resilience of European economies and bolstering protections for democratic systems.

During discussions focused on strengthening democratic institutions, Ms. Boone will call for continuing the work carried out in the first half of the year on various pieces of legislation, including the text concerning the regulation of political advertising. She will also express her support for continuing discussions at the European level on stepping up funding for independent and investigative journalism, in line with the conclusions adopted this past June on the safety and protection of journalists.

Also on the agenda: practical ways to follow up on the Conference on the Future of Europe. Citizens participated wholeheartedly in that exercise by formulating concrete proposals that reflect our goal of achieving a more sovereign Europe that offers greater protections in the areas of security, the climate, regulation of the tech sector and the digital transition.
