Economic diplomacy – Contract awarded to Safran Reosc for the future European Extremely Large Telescope in Chile (31 May 2017)

France hails the success of Reosc, a subsidiary of Safran Electronics and Defense, which yesterday signed a contract with the European Organization for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere for the future European Extremely Large Telescope.

This telescope, which will be located in Chile, will be the largest in the world and will lead to significant progress in astronomy once it becomes operational as planned in 2024.

This project has received constant support from the French government since 2012, notably from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The contract will lead to the creation of 90 highly-skilled jobs in France and the opening of a new production facility in Poitiers. It is also a significant achievement for French advanced technology.
