André Vallini, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie, visited the headquarters of the French NGO, Handicap international, in Lyon today.
On the eve of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, André Vallini endorsed, on behalf of France, the Charter on the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action at the NGO’s headquarters. This charter was launched by Handicap International and was presented at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul in May.
France therefore joins the 140 states, international organizations and NGOs that are signatories to the charter and are committed to ensuring that development assistance takes the specific needs of disabled persons into consideration, in line with the principles of non-discrimination, and encourages their involvement in the design of humanitarian programs.
This visit to the headquarters of Handicap International provided an opportunity to pay tribute to the courageous action taken by this organization since its creation in 1982.
