Development assistance - Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne’s participation in the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers (development) (video conference, 29 April 2021)

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State for Tourism, French Nationals Abroad and Francophonie, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, took part, today, April 29, in the informal meeting of EU development ministers devoted to redesigning the European architecture for development financing.

The ministers examined ways to better coordinate the actions undertaken by the European financial institutions active in the development sector, notably the European Investment Bank (EIB), led by the EU member states, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), an international institution based in London.

The minister of state underscored the role of Europe as a strategic partner in responding to development challenges, notably in sub-Saharan Africa, within the framework of the ambitious European development policy goals. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne stressed the need for the EIB and the EBRD to work together more effectively, in conjunction with each other, and by developing their activities in their mutual areas of expertise. During his remarks, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne also referred to the Summit on Financing African Economies due to take place on May 18 on President Macron’s initiative.
