Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, Gérald Darmanin, Minister of Government Action and Public Accounts, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy and Finance, launch the national and international subscription to rebuild Notre Dame cathedral

The President of the Republic has announced the launch of a national and international subscription to raise funds for the reconstruction of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, following the terrible fire that devastated the monument on Monday, 15 April 2019.

In order to raise funds for the reconstruction of Notre Dame, the government has created a joint platform, www.rebatirnotredame.gouv.fr, bringing together four institutions and foundations in the public interest that are authorized to collect donations:

These platforms fulfil several commitments:

  • Full disbursement of the amounts collected;
  • Secure payments;
  • Guaranteed transparency of fundraising methods.

Their role is to collect the French and international donations that are currently being made, as widely as possible.

A centre has been created at the Ministry of Culture to facilitate the collection and processing of the largest donations.

The Council of Ministers meeting on 17 April was wholly dedicated to the plan to rebuild Notre Dame cathedral.

“We are a people of builders. We have so much to rebuild. So yes, we will rebuild Notre-Dame cathedral, even more beautifully than before. I want that to be done within five years. We can do that. And here too, we will rally support”
Emmanuel Macron
