Christophe Hutin’s submission, “Les communautés à l’œuvre” (“Communities at Work”) selected to represent France at the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture (2020)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, selected Christophe Hutin’s submission, “Les communautés à l’œuvre” (“Communities at Work”) for the French Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice in 2020.

Their decision was based on the recommendation of a selection committee chaired by professor and architect/urban planner Philippe Madec, which examined all the submissions received in response to the call for proposals issued by the Institut Français, operator of the French Pavilion in Venice. The committee was seeking an architect or multidisciplinary team containing at least one experienced, industry-leading architect and a young architect under 40.

Nineteen teams responded to the call for projects on the theme “How will we live together? Comment allons-nous vivre ensemble?” proposed by the curator of this 17th International Architecture Exhibition, Lebanese architect Hashim Sarkis, dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at Boston’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
