France’s candidate for Eurovision 2017 is Alma

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual event organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), in which EBU members perform songs which are transmitted live and simultaneously by all participating broadcasters.

It remains one of the world’s longest-running TV programmes and the largest song contest ever organized.

Since its creation in 1956, France has won five times (in 1958, 1960, 1962, 1969 and 1977), and last year marked a turning point with the success of French candidate Amir, who came sixth.

Since 2016, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development has teamed up with France 2 Television to promote the French candidate and make Eurovision a tool for showcasing French artists internationally.
