Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian will oversee the launch of a new book, “In the Secret Archives of the Quai d’Orsay: France’s engagement in the world,” on October 13 at the Quai d’Orsay.
Under the scientific direction of Maurice Vaïsse, a historian of international relations, and Hervé Magro, director of the Diplomatic Archives, this book – published by Editions L’Iconoclaste - traces, through analyses by our Embassies, the major upheavals in the world between May 8, 1945, and 2001. Readers enjoy unprecedented access to diplomatic notes and analyses by French ambassadors.
The collections of the archives of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs reflect the expansion of our country’s international role over the centuries, but also technological advances that have led to the proliferation of numerous communications tools. The result of collaboration between curators, historians, journalists, diplomats, and other notable figures, this work showcases the value of the Diplomatic Archives, an integral part of our national heritage. It is an invitation to readers to discover these exceptional collections at the La Courneuve and Nantes sites.
At the book launch, Mr. Le Drian will underscore the commitment to better understanding this heritage, which can and must help the French to become better acquainted with their diplomatic network. Other such projects showcasing the Diplomatic Archives in coming months will be presented on this occasion.
This event is open to the la press.
