Latest news

The One Planet movement was created to maintain maximum political ambition for the fight against climate change and the protection of nature. It was launched in December 2017 at the joint initiative of France, the UN and the World Bank, with a clear purpose. Preserving the planet requires more commitment, more tangible decisions and joint efforts by all public and economic stakeholders. The movement supports international momentum, in conjunction with other major international events.

Bringing together all public and political stakeholders

Since 2017, each summit has brought together many decision-makers from all horizons to identify and accelerate transformational initiatives and finance solutions for the climate, biodiversity and oceans.
One Planet Summits are not government summits. They bring together all stakeholders, governments and civil society alike, giving equal weight to what they say. They are therefore in synergy with the Conferences of the Parties (COP) to conventions, which bring together state actors.

Fostering and financing tangible solutions

The primary goal of the One Planet movement is to promote the emergence of tangible solutions for a transition to a low-carbon economy, for climate change adaptation and for the protection of biodiversity.
By seeking new sources of finance and innovative partnerships, the movement ensures that the achievements of international climate negotiations are implemented, proposes tangible solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and to protect animal and plant species. It is therefore a means of restoring “meaning” to finance, reconnecting it with transformative projects that are useful to citizens, in the framework of climate action.

Through the One Planet movement, some 30 coalitions and tangible initiatives have emerged or have reached an implementation phase. The organizations promoting these projects commit to precise goals and have to report back on them.
