Climate – Contribution of the Marshall Islands to COP21 – Statement by Laurent Fabius (July 20, 2015)

I warmly welcome the publication by the Republic of the Marshall Islands of its national contribution with a view to COP21.

This contribution, which is the 47th overall and the first from a Small Island Developing State, on which climate disruption has had major impact, sends a strong signal to the international community.

This contribution intends to reduce emissions by 32% by 2025 and by 45% by 2030 compared with 2010 levels, as a result of growth in renewable energies. It also aims to reach zero net emissions by 2050.

I would like to recall that national contributions are one of the pillars of the Paris Climate Alliance.
