Organized by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs at the instigation of the President of the French Republic, the Mediterranean Forum is being held in Marseille on 7 and 8 February 2022 with a multitude of civil society stakeholders from both of its shores. Its objective: to make the Mediterranean more sustainable, prosperous and integrated by 2030.

Following on from the Summit of the Two Shores (2019) and after the two years of the pandemic, this event aims to provide a space for discussions and debates for stakeholders from civil society and the entire Mediterranean region in which they can address our common challenges.
This event will gather together close to 1,000 participants over two days. Their discussions will focus on unifying and positive themes:

• Environment and biodiversity;
• Education, training and mobility;
• Employment, innovation and entrepreneurship;
• Inclusion and solidarity;
• Culture and heritage;
• Regional action and sustainable development.

Built in partnership with some 50 institutional partners and civil society stakeholders, it has also solicited the participation of two major Euro-Mediterranean organizations: the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Union for the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean Forum has an extensive programme taking place in several formats:

• Meetings and dialogue with more than 25 roundtables and workshops;
• Places for discussion and networking;
• A Project Village showcasing some 100 Mediterranean projects;
• A space dedicated to employment, entrepreneurship and innovation;
• A sum-up of youth advocacy work, carried out by more than 200 young people from all over the Mediterranean region, in the form of proposals for the Mediterranean of 2030.

An appeal for the Mediterranean

Consultations with young people from the Mediterranean region were held ahead of the Forum, with the aim of drawing up an appeal and concrete proposals to build a more sustainable, prosperous and integrated Mediterranean region by 2030. These consultations brought together 200 Mediterranean stakeholders under 40 years old from more than 20 countries in the Mediterranean region.
Together they came up with proposals focused on 8 key themes, which will be presented in Marseille.
