With the oil tanker Safer, abandoned off the coast of Yemen, posing the risk of an ecological disaster in the Red Sea, France has decided to make an extra contribution of €1 million to the United Nations rescue plan. This additional contribution, which brings France’s contribution to €2.26 million, illustrates France’s commitment to protecting the environment in the region and its steadfast support for the United Nations rescue plan. France calls on the Houthis, who currently control the Safer tanker, to cooperate fully with the United Nations on the implementation of the rescue plan.

France reiterates its support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s special envoy in reaching a lasting, inclusive political solution in Yemen.
