Yemen – Houthi detention of UN staff, humanitarian workers and representatives of civil society organizations and diplomatic missions (June 6, 2025)
For one year now, the Houthis have been arbitrarily detaining UN staff and humanitarian workers, as well as representatives of Yemeni civil society and diplomatic missions.
France reiterates its extremely strong condemnation of these actions and calls on the Houthis to immediately and unconditionally release all of these detainees.
As the humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate, these detentions are hampering the distribution of aid that would meet the urgent needs of the Yemeni people. The Houthis must allow the UN to resume its activities in the Saada Governorate, which have been interrupted for the past three months.
France calls on the Houthis to fully abide by their obligation to protect humanitarian workers, who must be able to do their work in full respect for their safety and integrity, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
