Yemen – Announcement of a ceasefire by Saudi Arabia (9 April 2020)

While the troubling humanitarian situation in Yemen is likely to be exacerbated by the Covid-19 crisis, we call on all parties to suspend hostilities, in keeping with the UN secretary-general’s appeal for a humanitarian truce.

Saudi Arabia announced a two-week ceasefire in Yemen, as of today. France welcomes this positive signal aimed at easing tensions, in order to help bring the parties back to the negotiating table.

France again underscores the need for a political solution in Yemen, the only way to put an end to the conflict. It lends its support to the mediation efforts of Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Martin Griffiths to promote the resumption, without preconditions, of the discussions on a comprehensive and inclusive political agreement.
