Q: What is France’s response to the Framework for a Peaceful Democratic Transition in Venezuela initiative proposed by the United States?
A: Like its European partners, France supports a political and peaceful solution to the crisis in Venezuela, which involves the holding of free, transparent and credible parliamentary and presidential elections. We hope that the proposals made by the United States will contribute to that goal, while taking the Oslo-Barbados process into consideration.
We underscore the importance of implementing all of the recommendations made by the UN high commissioner for human rights. In a context of deep economic and social crisis, which could be further exacerbated by the Covid-19 epidemic, France stands alongside the Venezuelan people in order to resolve a crisis, in which they are the primary victims.
