Venezuela - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (26.01.18)
Q - Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice has excluded the main opposition coalition from the early presidential elections, slated to take place before the end of April. Do you think that, under these conditions, fair elections are still possible?
A - By deciding to exclude the opposition coalition, “Mesa de Unidad Democratica” (MUD), from the presidential elections, the Venezuelan authorities have once again compromised the fairness of these elections, after having made changes to the electoral calendar without consulting the opposition.
France deplores this decision, as well as the one taken yesterday by Caracas to declare Spain’s ambassador to Venezuela persona non grata. It expresses its solidarity with Spain.
