Q: How do you respond to statements by LFI presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is accusing France’s ambassador to Venezuela, Romain Nadal, of “bringing shame upon” France after an anti-Chavez tweet, asserting that an ambassador “shouldn’t express support for any political party” in a foreign country?

A: Our ambassador’s tweet isn’t taking sides, apart from paying tribute to the art of press cartoons, which the French highly value.

With regard to Venezuela, France, along with its European partners, will continue supporting the democratic forces in that country with a view to free and transparent presidential and legislative elections, without which there will be no end to the crisis.
