US Supreme Court decision on abortion rights - Statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (24 Jun. 2022)

France was dismayed to learn about the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States of America which undermines the constitutional protection for the right to abortion and jeopardizes years of fighting for gender equality.

This regression highlights the importance of our fight to ensure the right to abortion, which is inherent to the right for women to have control over their bodies, is recognized as a fundamental right and therefore can never be undermined. Access to abortion is a matter of health and survival for women of all ages. France calls on the federal authorities to do everything they can to protect abortion rights.

France is a champion of the coalition for sexual and reproductive health and rights. With its feminist foreign policy, France is determined now more than ever to drive progress for the rights of women and girls, everywhere and in all circumstances.
