France applauds the United States’ commitment to not conduct any destructive, direct-ascent anti-satellite (ASAT) missile testing.

This initiative contributes to the efforts of a growing number of states to promote norms for responsible behavior that will strengthen the security and stability of space activities. This is the goal of the international working group on reducing space threats that will be part of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament and discussions scheduled to take place in May.

France, which has never conducted such tests, will continue to advocate for a universal, legally-binding norm banning all such actions.
