United States – Conversation between Mme Catherine Colonna and Mr Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State (22 May 2022)

Mme Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke on the telephone today to her US counterpart, Mr Antony Blinken.

During this first, very friendly discussion, the two ministers expressed their shared desire to continue and further strengthen the close partnership between France and the United States by continuing to implement the [G20] Rome [Leaders] Declaration of October 2021. They signalled their determination to continue the close, trustful cooperation on the war in Ukraine, and discussed the efforts under way to bolster support for Ukraine, particularly in terms of defence equipment.

They expressed their shared desire to step up international coordination to address the food crisis resulting from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. They reiterated France and the United States’ support for the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, and discussed the situation in the Western Balkans. Regarding the Iran nuclear issue, they talked about the importance of a swift return to the JCPOA.
