The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, spoke by telephone this evening with the US Secretary of State, Mr Mike Pompeo. The Secretary of State expressed solidarity on behalf of himself and his country following the fire at Notre-Dame cathedral. Minister Le Drian thanked his counterpart and expressed France’s gratitude for the many messages of compassion and support received from the United States. He confirmed that Ambassador Stanislas de Laboulaye had been designated to liaise with all those aborad willing to support France in rebuilding Notre-Dame.
The Minister and the Secretary discussed the security situation in Tripoli. They noted that they share the same views on this matter and expressed their desire for a rapid ceasefire and for the political process to resume immediately, under the authority of the United Nations.
