The President of the French Republic today held a conversation with the President of the United States of America, Mr Joe Biden, and congratulated him on his inauguration on 20 January.

He recalled the historic friendship between our two countries, based on freedom and democracy, and stressed his commitment to working with the United States to implement our shared objectives.

The two Presidents held a friendly and detailed working conversation, during which they noted many shared views on multilateral issues such as crises and international security.

They emphasized their shared determination to work with the WHO on world health, particularly to support the most vulnerable countries in the face of the pandemic.

They expressed a desire that the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement should mark a new step forward so that the international community can fully meet its commitments with a view to COP26.

They also noted their shared views and desire to work together for peace and stability in the Middle East, particularly on the Iranian nuclear issue and the situation in Lebanon. The two Presidents agreed to remain in very close contact over the coming weeks to discuss these issues and our entire shared agenda.
