European Union – United States - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (30 May 2017)

Q - France is taking a conciliatory stance toward President Trump while Germany is adopting an extremely strong tone by accusing US policies of standing against EU interests. Could that undermine the European message that Berlin and Paris want to be at the forefront?

A - During the NATO and G7 summits, France and Germany expressed their shared desire for a positive and pragmatic relationship within the transatlantic partnership.

As reaffirmed by Jean-Yves Le Drian and his counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, during their joint press conference in Berlin on May 22, France and Germany share the same views about these issues.
