Mme Nathalie Loiseau, Minister for European Affairs, will host a meeting with Mr Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, on 13 November.
The city of London holds a special place in the unique and close relationship between France and the United Kingdom, due to the significant presence of French nationals who are very active in many sectors of London’s economy, and the very strong economic ties between our two capitals. Relations between Paris and London have been constantly developing since the opening of the Eurostar link, whose 25th anniversary we shall be celebrating next year.
At their meeting, Mme Loiseau and Mr Khan will mostly discuss the consequences of the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, particularly for French people living in the British capital.
Cooperation on sporting events will also be discussed. Indeed, France and the UK decided in January 2018, at the Sandhurst summit, to exchange good practice in terms of organizing sporting and heritage events for the population, based on the UK’s experience of the especially successful London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and then the Rugby World Cup in 2015, and in the run-up to the Rugby World Cup in France in 2023 and the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.
