United Kingdom – Meeting between Jean-Marc Ayrault and his British counterpart, Boris Johnson - Reminder of the statement issued by the spokesperson (July 17, 2016)


Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, spoke on the telephone with his new British counterpart, Boris Johnson, on July 16.

Boris Johnson expressed his shock at the attacks in Nice, and expressed his country’s solidarity with France in the face of this terrible ordeal.

The two ministers discussed the strengthening of cooperation with respect to combating terrorism. Jean-Marc Ayrault stressed that the upcoming negotiations on the United Kingdom’s orderly exit from the European Union should take place under the best possible conditions and in a transparent manner.

The two ministers will meet at the Foreign Affairs Council on July 18 in Brussels.
