I am a British citizen living in France

The United Kingdom left the European Union at midnight on 31 January 2020, after both parties had ratified the Withdrawal Agreement. EU law will continue to apply to the UK until the transition period expires, on 31 December 2020. The transition period guarantees unchanged rules for individuals and companies, to allow for all stakeholders to begin application of the Agreement and to prepare the future relationship between the UK and the EU, which has yet to be negotiated.

For British nationals in France, EU law therefore continues to apply during the transition period. There is however one exception : British nationals are no longer entitled to participate in local elections.

Will I need to obtain a residency permit (Leave to remain) ?

What conditions will I need to meet to obtain a residency permit (Leave to remain) ?

I already live in France. How can I apply for a residency card ?

You’ll find answers to all these questions on the relevant pages of the Ministry of the Interior

(in French).
