Q : According to Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko, meetings in the Normandy format are going to resume soon. At the same time, Ukrainian presidential election candidate Vladimir Zelensky has proposed reforming the format. How do you assess the future of the Normandy format? Is France ready to agree to modifications to the format?
A : France and Germany, co-mediators of the Normandy format, are sincerely calling for a renewed commitment by the parties to implementing the Minsk agreements and stepping up talks following the Ukrainian presidential election, in agreement with the authorities that emerge from it. The full implementation of the Minsk agreements remains the only framework for resolving the crisis. We expect the parties to show more political will to restore peace.
