France hails this morning’s departure of the first ship from the Ukrainian port of Odesa. It is an important step forward in the implementation of the agreement reached under the auspices of the UN – an agreement that must continue to be implemented in the long term. France commends the efforts of the UN and Turkey in this regard.

We call on the parties to continue secure exports of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea in order to reduce global food insecurity aggravated by the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

In this regard, France condemns Russia’s ongoing indiscriminate airstrikes, including those against the port of Odesa, which jeopardize the implementation of this agreement

While Russia is using famine as a weapon of war, as President Macron reiterated during his trip to Africa, France and its partners continue to mobilize their efforts to reduce the risks of food insecurity affecting the world’s most vulnerable populations.
