Turkey – Sentencing of two Cumhuriyet journalists (April 28, 2016)

France is concerned by the two-year prison sentences handed down to two journalists from the daily Cumhuriyet, Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan, who had printed the front page of Charlie Hebdo in their paper on January 14 as a gesture of solidarity after the January 2015 attacks in Paris. Their attorney is appealing the sentence.

France reiterates its commitment to the freedom of expression and of the press, which are guaranteed by international texts and are an essential component of any democratic society.
