Turkey – Press freedom – Trial of Can Dündar and Erdem Gül (Istanbul, March 25, 2016)

Our consul general attended the opening of the trial in Istanbul in the company of several other heads of diplomatic and consular missions.

Media pluralism, the media’s ability to express critical viewpoints, and the right to inform are key elements of the democratic debate. It is vital for Turkey to continue abiding by the commitments it has made to protect fundamental liberties.

More broadly, France expresses its concern over the intimidation and legal and administrative proceedings directed against journalists and academics.
