Turkey – Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and his counterpart (Paris, June 7)

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, received Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, today.

The ministers discussed the situation in Libya, where every effort must be made to ensure that the timetable for the political, security and electoral transition stays on track and that the ceasefire is put into practice, in Syria and with respect to the Middle East peace process. They discussed cooperation within NATO, notably EU-NATO relations and the values and principles that underpin the alliance, in the run-up to the next meeting of heads of state and government on June 14. The ministers also discussed relations between Turkey and the EU in the run-up to the European Council from June 24 to 25, and notably the situation in the eastern Mediterranean.

The two ministers also took stock of bilateral relations. They notably discussed the importance of the economic and trade ties between the two countries and reaffirmed their desire to hold the next session of the France-Turkey Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) this fall. They also agreed to continue discussions on issues of common interest.
