Turkey – Attack in Istanbul – Statement by Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development (January 12, 2016)

I was deeply shocked to learn of this morning’s attack in Istanbul, in the tourist area of Sultanahmet, which killed at least 10 people and injured many others.

I utterly condemn this heinous attack and express France’s wholehearted solidarity to the Turkish people and the authorities of that country, which has once again been hit hard.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and close friends.

At my request, crisis units were immediately set up in Paris and Istanbul. A telephone hotline has been set up in Paris:

Our Consulate General in Istanbul and the Quai d’Orsay’s crisis and support center are mobilized.

Our citizens present in Turkey were immediately advised to be vigilant.
