Turquie - Droits de l’Homme - Procès de M. Taner Kiliç, responsable turc d’Amnesty International (22 novembre 2017)

While the second hearing in the trial against the Turkish leaders of Amnesty International, Taner Kilic and Idil Eser, and nine other human rights activists arrested at the beginning of July, including German and Swedish nationals, Peter Steudtner and Ali Gharavi, opens today in Istanbul, France reaffirms its deep concern and its attachment to the right to a fair trial.

It is continuing to closely monitor the situation: the Consulate General of France in Istanbul attended this session, as it did so for the first hearing in this trial.

We call for the swift release of Taner Kilic, Chairman of Amnesty International, the only one of the 11 defendants still being held in detention following the ruling ordering the conditional release of the detainees issued during the first hearing on October 25.

The work of NGOs such as Amnesty International contributes to the defense of human rights and to the promotion of a vibrant civil society, an essential component of a democratic society.

France calls on Turkey to comply with its European and international commitments and relays this message in discussions at all levels with Turkish officials.
