I was shocked to learn of the attack, and the hostage-taking, that just occurred in Tunis.
It has taken a very heavy toll. I am in direct contact with our embassy in Tunis, and the Foreign Ministry’s crisis and support center has been mobilized.
To the victims’ families and loved ones, to the Tunisian authorities and to the Tunisian people, I want to express France’s deep friendship and solidarity.
Today, terrorism has struck– and this is not by chance – a country that represents hope in the Arab world. The hope of peace, the hope of stability, the hope of democracy. That hope must live on.
