Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke by phone with Othman Jerandi, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad on July 11. The conversation focused on the health crisis and the deteriorating epidemic situation.

The minister reiterated France’s commitment since March 2020 with respect to health and medical support for Tunisia. He indicated that France would swiftly strengthen its assistance in order to support Tunisia in its vaccination campaign. This support will involve:

  • the imminent arrival of an initial French donation of 324,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses through the COVAX initiative, following the prime minister’s visit to Tunisia;
  • the delivery of 800,000 additional vaccine doses to be sent over the next few weeks, including an additional 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses and 500,000 single dose Jansson vaccine doses;
  • the provision of essential medical equipment, notably including consumables, equipment for the production of medical grade oxygen, and intensive care beds, which will supplement the deliveries made on June 3 in the presence of the prime minister during his visit to Tunisia in the context of the High Council for Cooperation.

France stands alongside Tunisia and the Tunisian people in order to help them overcome the current health crisis.
