Economic relations

Although France is still not a significant trade partner in Tanzania, its role is growing: French exports doubled in 2015 (€200 million), mainly due to the sale of pharmaceuticals and especially large contracts.

The main imports from Tanzania are agrifood products; farming, forestry, fishery and aquaculture products; and manufactured goods (made from cement, steel, iron and plastic).

French investments and the number of French companies in Tanzania have been increasing for the last five years. French FDI stock (€45 million) is expected to increase.

Around 40 French companies are mainly present in the energy, logistics, transport and construction sectors.

The Agence Française de Développement has been increasing its commitments at a fast pace since 2010 ( totalling €390.6 million or €50 million a year), mainly in the sectors of water and energy, transport infrastructure, urban development and private sector support.
