Q : United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen urged the establishment of a “new international format” to revive the quest for a political settlement to the Syria conflict that should include the United States, Russia, Iran, Turkey, the EU and the Arab countries. How do you view this initiative? Will France participate in this format?

A : France stands ready to work on any initiative within the UN framework aimed at achieving a credible political solution and the implementation of all aspects of Security Council Resolution 2254. France is fully committed to helping end the crisis, among other things through a dialogue among the main regional and international actors.

As the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs said yesterday, it is in this spirit that we and our partners will continue our effort to find a political solution that benefits the Syrian people by fostering a stable, sovereign Syria.
