Syria - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (16.01.18)
Q - Is France going to take part in the anti-Daesh coalition’s project, under American command, to create a new border guard force in northern Syria?
A - Actions by the international coalition against Daesh were key to the terrorist organization’s loss of territory in Iraq and Syria.
Despite these important successes, the fight against Daesh is not over. The coalition must continue its efforts to end the threat that the terrorist group represents for the region and beyond. It must also help establish the conditions for security and governance that would prevent any resurgence of Daesh in the future.
In this respect, securing the borders is important to curtailing the freedom of movement enjoyed by Daesh members and to ensuring the protection of civilian populations. It calls for dialogue and full cooperation among the relevant regional actors.
