Syria - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (13.06.17)

Q - Has the cooperation with Moscow announced by President Macron begun to take shape, and in particular the French-Russian working group?

A - We maintain a regular dialogue with Russia on Syria. Jean-Yves Le Drian’s conversations with his Russian counterpart will continue in the coming days.

Q - Does Paris consider that Bashar al-Assad and Daesh are two faces of the “same coin”?

A - France’s priority is combating terrorism.

We are continuing our operations alongside our international coalition partners to retake Raqqa and defeat Daesh in Syria.

Only the establishment of a negotiated democratic transition, in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254, will bring an end to the Syrian conflict, defeat terrorism, and permit the voluntary and long-term return of refugees and internally displaced people.
