On the occasion of the ministerial-level Brussels VI Conference chaired by the European Union, Brigitte Curmi, France’s ambassador to Syria, reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people in Syria and in the region and announced a €373 million aid package for 2022.

The ambassador reiterated France’s call for guaranteed safe and unhindered humanitarian access throughout Syria, specifically through the UN Security Council’s renewal of the cross-border humanitarian aid delivery mechanism.

We are continuing to mobilize all our efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria. Only a credible long-term political solution to the conflict can guarantee the Syrians security and justice and facilitate the safe, dignified, voluntary return of refugees.

On the sidelines of the conference, France co-hosted an event opposing impunity for the crimes committed in Syria. The fight against impunity is one of our diplomatic priorities and a prerequisite for lasting peace in Syria. EU sanctions will continue to target the perpetrators of repression in Syria.
