Reports indicate that a deadly attack took place on May 2 and 3 near Idlib in northwestern Syria. The attack reportedly involved the use of air assets.
This chemical attack, if corroborated, would confirm that the Damascus regime is still not complying with its international obligations and is acting in violation of UNSCR 2118, as well as UNSCR 2209 condemning the use of chlorine, adopted on March 6.
The continuation of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons fact-finding mission, which France strongly supports, is more necessary than ever in order to shed light on the use of chemical weapons on Syrian territory. The perpetrators must be brought to justice.
