Syria – Bombing of medical facilities (28 April 2017)

France condemns the aerial bombing of medical facilities in the Idlib region over the last few days which have claimed the lives of several people.

These deliberate attacks are unacceptable and are further violations of international humanitarian law; they may constitute war crimes.

The regime must put an end to these attacks against the populations and civilian infrastructure, against health workers and healthcare facilities. France reaffirms the urgent need to implement an effective cessation of hostilities.

The only way to establish lasting peace in Syria is through a political solution based on UNSCR 2254 and the Geneva Communiqué. This is the purpose of the negotiations under UN auspices which should soon resume in Geneva. We reaffirm our support for them.
